About us
With a focus on revealing the physiology and functions of microorganisms, the Laboratory of Microbial Physiology conducts research on subjects such microbial growth, fermentation, metabolism, interactions, and evolutionary dynamics. The team also hopes to apply these results to public health initiatives, health maintenance, and the production of valuable compounds.
The gut bacteria found in both human and animal digestive tracts are the main focus of our research. We specifically carry out basic research on the survival tactics of Bifidobacteria in the gut environment and examine their metabolic processes, paying particular attention to bile acids. In light of these discoveries, our goal is to control gut microbiota in order to maintain human health.
Additionally, we conduct research on managing the metabolic processes of industrial microorganisms like Escherichia coli and Corynebacterium, as well as breeding beneficial production strains, in order to increase the efficiency of valuable substance production through microbial fermentation.
